Literacy for Liberation
More than half of Haiti's adult population is illiterate. What would your life be like today if you had never been taught to read? How would you find work? Manage your finances? Help your children with their homework? Illiteracy is also a major barrier to economic progress for Haiti.
Beyond Borders is working to provide Haitians with the opportunity to learn to read by assisting communities and churches to establish and run literacy centers for adults and children too old to enroll in a traditional school.
Through these centers, thousands of Haitians have learned to read, write and develop other skills needed to break the bonds of poverty. Beyond Borders supports these literacy centers by providing funding for classroom materials, teacher training and salaries, supervision, and logistical support.
You can support an entire adult literacy center through the Partnership of Hope or provide one adult with the gift of literacy through the Literacy Scholarship Fund.
