I can’t even count the numbers of times I’ve wanted to change something about the world around me and then realized I needed to change myself first.

For example, I’ve found myself so frustrated by our materialistic society. We waste so much money on things we really don’t need and won’t make us happy, while so many in Haiti and around the world suffer without the basics. Over the years, though, I’ve learned that I have to continually challenge my own materialistic tendencies before I can speak to others with any moral authenticity.

A moment of introspection like this is the starting line for every one of our activists working to end violence against women and girls in Haiti.

Before they ask anyone else to look at their attitudes and behaviors about gender, they look at themselves.

First, they learn how to truly share power in their own lives.

Then they invite their innermost network–friends and family–to do the same.

Gradually, the circle expands to their neighbors and community.

Finally, the movement thrives and whole nations discover they have the capactiy to change.

Thanks to your support, since 2010 we’ve engaged more than 15,000 people across southeast Haiti in this movement.

But we need to reach thousands more … and we need more partners like you to do it.
