Reference Data Research Intern/Volunteer

Description

Beyond Borders is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting social justice in and for Haiti. Our development team is seeking a volunteer or a volunteer intern to conduct desk research and create a catalogue of relevant studies to be used for citation in grant proposals. This is a volunteer internship.

Responsibilities:
  1. Seek and catalogue research relevant to Beyond Borders’ program themes and Haiti.
  2. Read research reports to identify and catalogue data citations for use in proposal development.
  3. Set up and maintain cataloguing systems.
Requirements:

Appropriate candidates will be extremely organized and detail-oriented. In addition to superior time management and communications skills, they will possess the following:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and Google applications, particularly spreadsheets
  • Facility with navigating online search engines
  • Commitment to Beyond Borders’ mission and vision
  • Ability to work remotely
Preferred:
  • Interest in issues of social justice, human rights, and international development
  • An understanding and commitment to Haiti
  • Facility with Haitian Creole and/or French

Grant Prospecting Research Internship

Description

Beyond Borders is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting social justice in and for Haiti. Our development team is seeking an intern or volunteer to learn about and support our grants prospecting research. This is a volunteer opportunity designed to build capacity in grant prospecting research while accomplishing specific fundraising tasks.

Responsibilities:
  1. Research and identify prospective funders by using Foundation Center database and other resources.
  2. Compile lists of prospective grant makers and their criteria for consideration by fundraising staff for cultivation.
  3. Improve upon and maintain the grants prospect spreadsheet to track cultivation efforts.
  4. Set up and manage a system to alert staff to events that may offer opportunities to cultivate prospective funders through face-to-face networking.
Internship Learning Goals:
  1. Increase understanding of Beyond Borders’ programming in Haiti.
  2. Increase understanding of the grant-making landscape.
  3. Master methods and processes for researching, identifying, and tracking prospective grantmakers.

Creole-English Translator Volunteers

Application deadline: Ongoing

Beyond Borders is currently looking for volunteers to help with translating important documents from Haitian Creole to English and vise-versa. As a translator, you will be translating a wide variety of documents ranging from articles, reports, planning documents, data spreadsheets, proposals, budgets, website content, and more! You will be a member of a volunteer translator team, supporting the Beyond Borders’ team in Haiti and North America, under the direction and support of the Deputy Executive Director.

To be a Volunteer Translator, you are/have:
  • Fluent in both English and Haitian Creole
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Prior experience as a translator
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional time management capabilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and Google applications, particularly Google Docs and Google Sheets,
  • Ability to work independently
  • Personal values that align with Beyond Borders’ vision for Haiti
  • General understanding of and interest in issues of social justice, human rights, and international development
