The article titled “Reducing Violence Against Women and Girls in a Time of Crisis: An Impact Evaluation of the Rethinking Power Program in Haiti” evaluates the effectiveness of the Rethinking Power program, a community-based intervention aimed at reducing violence against women and girls in Haiti.

Implemented between 2017 and 2021 in La Vallée Commune, the program adapted the SASA! approach to address intimate partner violence (IPV), incorporating components like Power to Girls and Safe and Capable to focus on adolescent girls and women with disabilities.

Despite challenges such as political instability, economic crises, and the COVID-19 pandemic, the mixed-methods, quasi-experimental study found that participants in intervention areas had a 41% reduced odds of reporting past-year physical or sexual IPV compared to control sites.

Additionally, there were significant improvements in gender-equitable attitudes and decreased acceptance of violence. The study concludes that with flexibility and adaptability, IPV prevention programs can be successfully implemented even in unstable contexts.
